What makes the 2021 season so noteworthy is that the GLS achieved this record of performance during a prolonged and unprecedented national health emergency. In the U.S. sector of the waterway during the 2021 navigation season (March 22-December 31, 2021), the U.S. Seaway workforce ably operated and maintained the waterway and lock system at a reliability rate of 99.5 percent and lock availability rate of 99.9 percent, all while managing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
