Examining the Seizure Standard for Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers: Evidence Report, Systematic Review, and Medical Expert Panel Report

Excerpt:  “Individuals with an established medical history or clinical diagnosis of epilepsy or any other condition that is likely to cause loss of consciousness or any loss of ability to control a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) are not allowed to operate a CMV in interstate commerce by Federal regulations. However, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issues exemptions from the regulatory requirements for select drivers who meet criteria based primarily on long time periods of medical stability without a seizure. Seven key questions are addressed in this report.”
