Analytic Culture in the U.S. Intelligence Community: An Ethnographic Study

Excerpt:  “The purpose of this research was to identify and describe conditions and variables that negatively affect intelligence analysis, to develop relevant and testable theory based on these findings, and to identify areas in which strategies to improve performance may be effective. Although there has recently been a great deal of concern that intelligence error and failure rates are inordinately high, in all likelihood, these rates are similar to those of other complex socio-cognitive domains, such as analysis of financial markets.”
