Excerpt: “Today, the Department of Commerce initiated an investigation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, as amended (19 U.S.C. § 1862) (“Section 232”), to determine the effects on the national security of the imports of medium-duty trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and medium- and heavy-duty truck parts. The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is examining the current quantities and circumstances of these imports to determine if it threatens to impair U.S. national security and whether action is needed to address any such threat. Protection of U.S. national security and economic interests remains the President’s first priority, and this investigation will ensure American truck manufacturing remains protected.”
