Excerpt: “By this Notice of Inquiry, the Commission seeks comment on issues related to spectrum for the Internet of Things, as directed by Congress in the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (NDAA or the Act). Specifically, the [National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)] requires the Commission to issue a notice of inquiry seeking comment on the current and future spectrum needs to enable better connectivity relating to the Internet of Things [(IoT)]. … Broadly speaking, the IoT refers to a system of Internet-connected devices that are able to collect and transfer data. Advances in hardware, network connectivity, interoperability, and software are accelerating the development of IoT technologies. As electronic devices have become smaller, with higher data processing, more capable, and less expensive, it has become possible to expand the universe of Internet-connected things.”
