Excerpt:  “The United States Congress enacted the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act on September 7, 1974, establishing the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). OJJDP supports State and local efforts to prevent delinquency and improve juvenile justice systems. By providing national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to youth delinquency and victimization, OJJDP helps States, localities, and Tribes develop effective and equitable juvenile justice systems that create safer communities and empower youth to lead productive lives. … The Council is charged with the coordination of all Federal delinquency programs (in cooperation with State and local juvenile justice programs), all Federal programs and activities that detain or care for unaccompanied juveniles, and all Federal programs relating to missing and exploited children.” (footnote omitted)
